Welcome to the Union Medals, Awards, and Prizes submission and review site!
AGU utilizes a two-step nomination and review process to enhance the accessibility and equity of the Union medals, awards, and prizes. Please review the specific criteria for the honor you are submitting a nomination for and AGU's values prior to starting the process.
The second round of the nomination process will be open until 11:59 PM ET, June 6. The full timeline for the nomination and review process is available here.
- All required information must be submitted through the online submission platform
- Late/incomplete nominations will not be accepted
- Materials sent outside of the submission platform will not be accepted
- We recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to access the online nomination platform.

Nomination Process for the Second-Round:
Second-round nomination materials should be submitted as unencrypted, watermark-free PDFs through the nomination portal. A complete round-two nomination package consists of the following items (note that letterhead is preferred):
- Nomination letter
- Curriculum vitae
- Selected bibliography (if applicable)
- 3 supporters to complete a recommendation form for the candidate
- Nominators will task three supporters to fill out a recommendation form for the nominee via the online platform. Supporters will be required to respond to the following prompts about the nominee. Each response should be between 250 and 500 words:
- Please comment on the nominee’s relevance to the primary criteria for this award.
- Please comment on the nominee's alignment with AGU values.

Requesting Supporters:
As a reminder, AGU no longer requires letters of support. Each nomination must be supported by three individuals who will complete a recommendation form (questionnaire) outlining how the nominee’s work aligns with the award criteria and AGU values. To initiate this process, please navigate to the Supporter tab on the nomination form and input their name and email address. This action will prompt an email notification to them, granting access to the recommendation form.
Once the supporters have submitted their responses, you will receive a notification confirming their submissions. You will have an opportunity to review what they provided before finalizing and submitting the nomination.
Please note that you won’t be able to submit the nomination until all materials, including completed recommendation forms from all three supporters, are provided. Your nomination will only be considered complete once all supporters have submitted their recommendation forms.
Reminders:
- The second round of the nomination and review process is not anonymized.
- The selection committees will use a standard rubric to evaluate the candidates based on the following:
- Relevance to the opportunity (award criteria): 40%
- Alignment with AGU values: 40%
- Strength of the nomination package: 20%
